Empathy dinner teaches valuable lessons about disabilities
It is often said that among the most difficult obstacles faced by people with disabilities, are the misconceptions of others. In an effort to help the NSU campus empathise, rather than sympathize for disabilities, Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity held their annual Empathy Dinner on March 3, 2009. Push America, the Fraternity’s philanthropy, serves people with disabilities through fundraising, volunteerism, and awareness. Brothers honored at annual scholarship banquet
Two members of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity were honored for their dedication at the Second Annual Beta Omicron Scholarship Banquet on Monday, March 23, 2009. Kyle Duhon, a sophomore biology major, and Kyle Domangue, a sophomore psychology major, were named the 2009 “Morgan Extra Mile Scholars.” The recipients were selected for their commitment to excellence in academics, leadership, service, and employment. Over $2,000 in scholarships were awarded at the banquet, held at Merci Beaucoup Restaurant in Natchitoches. Read the rest of this entry
Pi Kapp saves life of NSU classmate
For Cody Bourque, a member of Beta Omicron Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, December 10, 2008, turned out to be more than just the last day of class for the fall semester. While settling in for his final class of Television Technique, a female student frantically alerted the class that another female student had passed out in the restroom. Bourque, who was CPR certified as part of crew training for the Gear Up Florida team in 2008, thew off his coat and ran to the bathroom. “My mind was racing, but I knew the first thing to do was check her vitals, which I did three or four times while calming myself down,” said Bourque. He, assisted by the female student who alerted the class of the situation, was able to revive the student. Read the rest of this entry
Serving Push America by sitting on scaffold
Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity continued their committment to Push America by “doing whatever it takes.” To raise awareness for people with disabilities, members of the Beta Omicron Chapter camped out on a scaffold from March 2nd until the 4th. The attention-getting event involved over 40 participants sitting on or around the Chapter House on University Parkway. During the day and throughout the night, members reached out the Natchitoches community by enticing cars to “Honk For Push.” Read the rest of this entry
