campout-fall-2007Taking a break from the stresses of schoolwork, members of Pi Kappa Phi traveled to Kisatchie National Forest on October 19, 2007.  The chapter’s semi-annual Brotherhood Retreat gave the chapter an opportunity to bring the associate members closer to the active brothers.  No campout would be complete without grilling burgers and hot dogs, telling stories around a fire, and the coveted game of capture the flag.  The associate members put forth an outstanding effort, but the active members were able to edge by, claiming victory again this semester.

tri-sigma-carwashTwo NSU Greek Organizations worked together to raise money to benefit a local family on September 15th.  Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity and Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority raised over $500 to benefit a local family who recently lost their 11-year-old daughter in a car accident.  Members of both organizations spent the day washing cars and shining tires for the cause.  Sigma Sigma Sigma member Ginna McCowen said, “We knew we had to do something to help with this family’s loss.” Pi Kappa Phi associate member Kyle Domangue was glad to help.  “You just hope somebody would reach out to you, if this happened to you,” he said.

trash-bash-fall-2007Members of the Beta Omicron Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity are doing their part to keep Natchitoches beautiful.  On  September 9, the Fraternity held their regular “Trash Bash” .  Members walked over a mile, clearing trash and debris from the roadside.  In 2006, the chapter adopted University Parkway, the main thoroughfare leading into Natchitoches.  The Fraternity chose the street because of its high visibility to residents and tourists.  “It’s important that NSU students take pride in their community, so we help out where we can,” Pi Kappa Phi President DJ Klucznick said.  The roadside is cleaned at least four times each year.

Fraternity members from across the nation headed to Raleigh, North Carolina to particpate in Pi Kappa Phi’s biennial summer leadership conference.  Pi Kapp College is designed to help improve chapter operations by hosting a variety of leadership seminars and individual chapter analysis.  The NSU delegation consisted of Treasurer Britt Richey, Push America Chairman Cody Bourque, Risk Managment Chairman Collin McKnight, and Brother Jake Horaist. 

NSU’s Beta Omicron Chapter was named a Champion Master Chapter, an award given to only the top chapters of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity.  These chapters exemplify the goals and ideals of the fraternity in overall chapter operations.  Beta Omicron recieved master chapter status in the areas of Alumni Relations, Sound Chapter Operations, Academic Achievement, Recruitment Success, and Living the Ritual.  The chapter was also a recipient of the Added Value Award for an outstanding committment to Alumni relations and alumni initiates.

Pi Kappa Phi’s foundation is built upon functioning brotherhood. In the Fraternity’s student creed “…the ideal chapter is made up of men who are bound together by a common loyalty which transcends any personal selfishness.” In the spirit of this concept, the Beta Omicron Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity recently welcomed into their brotherhood 8 new initiates. Those brothers include Mr. Jake Horaist, Mr. Nicholas Breaux, Mr. Jason Andreoni, Mr. Michael Kreis, Mr. Matt Person, Mr. Jesse Baker, Mr. Jay Alost, and Mr. Ernest Russo. These gentlemen are charged with safeguarding and sharing a brotherhood that was established in 1904.

Rose Ball Formal Held in the “Big Easy” March 6, 2007

Rose Ball 2007The 2007 Rose Ball Formal was held March 2nd and 3rd  in New Orleans, Louisiana.  Historian Manny Augello said the event was a big success.  “This fall was the 50th anniversary for Beta Omicron, so we wanted to make the spring formal an equally impressive celebration.”  (more…)

Executive Council Elected January 27, 2007

On January 5-7, 2007, Beta Omicron’s newly elected executive council, as well as key committee chairmen traveled to Charlotte, North Carolina. The chapter leaders attended Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity’s Mid Year Leadership Conference. Almost 700 Pi Kappa Phi brothers received hands-on training in each of their leadership roles. They were able to exchange ideas with other chapters as well as receive direction from the national fraternity office. Upon return from the conference, the newly-elected officers held retreat workshops and strategic planning sessions to establish a mission. DJ Klucznik will serve as Archon, Will Harris as Vice Archon, Britt Richey as Treasurer, John Hall as Secretary, Randy Smith as Warden, Manny Augello as Historian, and Lane Luckie as Chaplain. The new executive council’s vision plan is “unity”, based upon the last stanza of the Pi Kappa Phi Student Creed: “I Believe that my chapter can become an ideal chapter, and I shall do my share to make it so.”

The Beta Omicron Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity recently welcomed into their brotherhood 11 new initiates.  Those brothers include Mr. Collin McKnight, Mr. Foster Adams, Mr. Tre Moreland, Mr. Cody Bourque, Mr. Taylor Richard, Mr. Brad Deville, Mr. Brandon Ray, Mr. Alex Miley, Mr. Terry Oliver Sr., Mr. David Harris, and Mr. Bill Luckie.  These gentlemen are charged with safeguarding and sharing a brotherhood that was established in 1904.

House Repairs

Throughout the month of August, the brothers of Beta Omicron spent hundreds of hours making repairs and upgrades to the Pi Kappa Phi house on College Avenue. Most of the work involved painting walls and deep cleaning, however a few major projects were undertaken to upgrade the chapter house. Work is expected to be completed by the end of August, in time for Fall Rush and the 50th anniversary celebration in October. Much thanks goes out to the many alumni who donated time, money, and supplies to the project!

Book Donation

   The Brothers of Beta Omicron recently donated a large collection of textbooks to the NSU Art Department. Brothers collected over 75 used textbooks, which will be used in student and faculty art projects during the upcoming school year.
