Four Beta Omicron members join National President’s Circle

In 2011, more than 400 students have joined Pi Kappa Phi Foundation’s National President’s Circle (NPC), the student giving club for the Pi Kappa Phi Foundation. Members of the NPC are Pi Kappa Phi students who make a gift of $20 to the Pi Kappa Phi Foundation to support the leadership and education programs of the fraternity each year. Mid Year Leadership Conference 2011: Ignite

The newly elected officers of the Beta Omicron Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity traveled to Dallas, Texas on January 14-16 for a hands-on leadership training institute. Attending the annual Mid Year Leadership Conference, eight leaders from each chapter connected with brothers, got answers about how to run the chapter and engage in the leadership of Pi Kappa Phi. The “Ignite” theme of Mid Year Leadership Conference 2011 is a call of action to member of Pi Kappa Phi; a challenge that acknowledges the fact that one individual has the potential to make a difference in the lives of the members with which he interacts. From the Archives: Pi Kapps Celebrate Christmas Festival 1958

Welcoming the holiday season to Natchitoches has been a highlight of the college experience for generations of Pi Kappa Phi. Each December for more than a half-century, attending the Christmas Festival is one of the oldest Beta Omicron traditions. This year, the 84th annual Christmas Festival expects to draw upwards of a quarter of a million people on Saturday, December 4th. This year’s festival features a laser light show and even synthetic snow. While they’re a sign of the changing times, some mainstays have weathered the course of time. Nearly any festival go-er, Pi Kapps included, would say no festival is complete without fireworks, hundreds of thousands of lights, and the Christmas parade. In honor of this weekend’s 84th annual Christas Festival, we’re sharing a story from the past: an article from the Feburary 1959 issue of Pi Kappa Phi’s Star and Lamp Magazine.

The 32nd annual Christmas Festival was staged December 6 in downtown Natchitoches, the report from Beta Omicron continues. “The festival, which annually draws some 50,000 people from several of the surrounding states, was climaxed with the turning on of 125,000 multi-colored lights which are valued at some $75,000. Board of directors elected to Beta Omicron Alumni Association

 A slate of seven alumni of the Beta Omicron Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity have been elected to guide the efforts of the chapter alumni association/ housing corporation. David Morgan; Lane Luckie, David Morgan, Jr.; Joey Kliebert; Kie Boyett; Joshua Alost; and George Etheredge will serve on the 2010-2011 board of directors. These alumni officers will manage the Beta Omicron Alumni Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity Housing Corporation, a non-profit organization that exists to advance the interests of the student chapter and provide education housing facilities to undergraduate members. A homecoming to remember

Homecoming 2010 served as the backdrop to many memorable Beta Omicron moments during a weekend of events which reunited brothers, spouses, and guests from across the country. Associate members choose to lead

After a year of exceptional success for Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity at NSU, the chapter’s recruitment efforts only highlight a tradition of excellence.  The Beta Omicron chapter has selected 15 men to carry on a 54-year legacy of brotherhood at Northwestern State University.  The new members, many of whom are freshman, are leaders on campus.  Phi Class is represented in the Spirit of Northwestern Marching Band, the NSU Football Team, Student Government Association, Criminal Justice Club, Student Activities Board, The NSU Student Alumni Association, and dominates intramural sports. A Wonderful World Awaits: Supreme Chapter 2010

Fraternity members from across the nation convened at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida for Pi Kappa Phi’s 52nd biennial Supreme Chapter on August 5 – 9, 2010. The convention delegation from Beta Omicron chapter consisted of Archon Jon Lee, Treasurer Butch York, Push America chairman Cameron Moises, and alumni members  David Morgan, Sr.; Wes Breeden; and David Morgan, Jr. Beta Omicron Chapter was recognized as one of the top chapters of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity for their committment to service and for academic achievement.   Read the rest of this entry

Alumnus named to national Pi Kapp Properties Board

Beta Omicron Chapter alumnus David D. Morgan, Sr. has been named to a 3-year term to the Pi Kapp Properties Board. As a separate affiliate of the Fraternity, PKP Properties is governed by a board of ten alumni volunteers. Invariably, these individuals have real estate, banking and legal expertise. Pi Kappa Phi Properties is an incorporated entity with the sole purpose of providing housing and management expertise for chapters of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. The Fraternity believes housing can be a tremendous educational resource and, when utilized correctly, can play an important role in ensuring the long-term strength of a chapter. “The chapter house is the physical structure that facilitates fellowship,” Morgan said. “It builds brotherhood and is an unmatched recruitment tool, central to the chapter.” Read the rest of this entry

Pi Kapps change lives by pedaling across Florida

They cycled almost 800 miles, contributed to more than $80 thousand raised to benefit people with disabilities, and most importantly, transformed lives. Four members of the Beta Omicron Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity participated in Gear Up Florida, a project of Push America. Cameron Moises, Jon Lee, Chase Harvey, and Nick Breaux spent two weeks spreading a message of acceptance and understanding on behalf of people with disabilities.

Pi Kappa Phi named top fraternity at NSU

More than any other fraternity at Northwestern State University, Pi Kappa Phi received recognition for excellence at the annual Greek Awards Banquet. On April 26, Pi Kappa Phi was honored for chapter success in academics, service, and athletics– indicative of the fraternity’s committment to developing well-rounded members. Beta Omicron chapter was named the recipient of the prestigious President’s Cup, an award given to the top Greek organization at NSU. Pi Kappa Phi is the first fraternity in five years to take home the honor.

Ashley Williams named 2010 Miss Push America

Junior family and consumer science major Ashley Williams has been named the 2010 Miss Push America. On April 29th, Williams and 13 other contestants competed for the title. The pagent, an outreach project of the Beta Omicron Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, aims to raise awareness on behalf of people with disabilities. Prior to the competition, contestants were encouraged to raise funds and participate in service projects for Push America. Since 1977, Push America has raised millions of dollars for and positively impacted the lives of thousands of people with disabilities. Read the rest of this entry

Brothers awarded thousands in scholarship money

Seven members of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity were honored for their committment to leadership at the Third Annual Beta Omicron Scholarship Banquet on Tuesday, April 13th, 2010. Chris Alley, Kyle Duhon, Chase Harvey, Jon Lee, Charles Messick, Marcos Silverio, and Nathan Willison were named the Spring 2010 “Morgan Extra Mile Scholars.” The recipients were selected for excellence in academics, campus and chapter leadership, service, and employment. Over $2,000 in scholarships were awarded at the banquet, held at Lasyone’s Meatpie Kitchen in Natchitoches. Read the rest of this entry

Pi Kappa Phi to host Miss Push America Pageant

The Beta Omicron Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi is proud to present the inaugural Miss Push America Pageant at NSU at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2010. Founded in 1977, Push America is the national philanthropy of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. Through its mission, building leaders of tomorrow by serving people with disabilities today, Push America has raised millions of dollars for and positively impacted the lives of thousands of people with disabilities.

The Miss Push America Pageant is designed to raise funds and awareness for people with disabilities. The pageant will require contestants to compete in a personal interview, fitness/sports wear (exercise attire, NO swimsuits allowed), and evening gown. Simple Choices. Major Impacts.

On January 15-17, Beta Omicron’s newly-elected executive council traveled to St. Louis, Missouri for training in key roles within the chapter. The chapter leaders attended Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity’s Mid Year Leadership Conference. ”Simple Choices. Major Impacts.” was the theme of the conference, inspiring members to take action at their university. The simple decision to lead can have far-reaching implications for a member. More than 500 Pi Kappa Phis received hands-on training in each of their leadership roles. They were able to exchange ideas with other chapters as well as receive direction from the national fraternity office.

Beta Omicron Chapter was recognized for their efforts in recruitment, service to Push America, and a newly-developed scholarship program. Fraternity CEO Mark Timmes (Florida) presented a State of the Fraternity address. He explained how Pi Kappa Phi is excelling in all areas, as other fraternities are experiencing a time of turmoil during this recession. Read the rest of this entry

Alumni initiates welcomed at Founders’ Day gathering

The Beta Omicron Chapter marked the 105th anniversary of Pi Kappa Phi’s founding with their annual banquet. Alumni, active and associate members gathered on Saturday, December 12  in historic Russell Hall to share a meal in honor of the friendship of the seven Pi Kappa Phi founders. Their decision to be “leaders by choice” has allowed fellowship and brotherhood at more than 150 chapters across the country, including one at Northwestern State University.
