The Beta Omicron chapter’s 2007 Homecoming Weekend centered around laying groundwork for the future of Pi Kappa Phi at Northwestern State University. Last year, the chapter celebrated its 50th Anniversary since chartering in 1956. Members and alumni, along with their families spent the weekend bridging the gap between past and present, with the future in focus.
On Friday, October 26th, Pi Kappa Phis and their families gathered along Jefferson Street for the annual Homecoming Parade. The Omicron Associate Class won second place for their pirate ship float in the parade. Families later gathered at the Beta Omicron Chapter House for an evening social, featuring the unveiling of the remodeled house. Refreshments were served as a slideshow of 50 years of pictures was played.
After the social, members gathered to welcome into their brotherhood 3 alumni initiates. The chapter selected to initiate into Pi Kappa Phi: Dr. Bill Morrison, Director of Technology of the Rapides Parish School Board, Mr. Doug Ireland, Sports Information Director at NSU, and Mr. Robert Crew, Executive Assistant to the President of NSU.
Saturday, October 27th, The Beta Omicron Alumni Chapter held their annual homecoming meeting to discuss future projects of the group to benefit the chapter. Mr. Shawn Daily was also announced as the new Chapter Advisor. Daily had previously served as Financial Advisor for Beta Omicron Chapter. The active chapter also presented the “Distinguished Alumni Award” to 4 outstanding alumni.
Following the meeting, the chapter enjoyed a large turn-out for tailgating at Turpin Stadium before the Homecoming Game. At Halftime during the game, Pi Kappa Phi members Lane Luckie and Wil Adams were honored as part of the NSU Homecoming Honor Court.
The weekend proved to be a big success, as the chapter’s future continues to look more promising each year.
