Larry Patrick Rice, the 58th initiate of the Beta Omicron Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior in the early morning hours on Sunday, July 22, 2018.
Larry was born on August 17, 1939, in Garland County, Arkansas and grew up in Winnfield, Louisiana. He graduated from Winnfield High School and received a Bachelors degree from Northwestern State University where he joined Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. Since graduation he worked and lived a blessed life in the Shreveport area. Larry dedicated his life to serving others. He was a beloved member of First Baptist Church of Keithville, and served as a Gideon as well as a Mason. LSU football, golf, bird watching on the back porch, or while sitting at the kitchen table and spending time with family and friends always brought so much joy to him.
Through the years, he has been an active alumnus of Pi Kappa Phi, attending reunions organized by the Founders Generation Group, NSU Homecoming activities, and the annual Founders Group spring luncheon in Bossier City. He served a term as chapter archon in 1962, among other leadership roles.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Kathy; daughter, Kristie Fuller; son-in-law, Kevin Fuller; brother-in-law, Carlton Green and Sheila Daniel; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Linda; his father, Larry Palmer Rice; mother, Emma Lee Rice; son, Chip Arnold and mother-in-law, Martha Moore.
Larry was the true definition of 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. To have known him was nothing short of a gift from God. He loved the Lord with all of his heart and the joy he brought will be greatly missed by so many.
The funeral service will be officiated by Brother Mike Stowell at First Baptist Church Keithville Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 11 a.m. Visitation will begin prior to the service at 10 a.m. The family suggests that memorials or donations may be made to honor Larry’s memory to First Baptist Church Keithville, 6295 Williams Rd. Keithville, LA 71045.
“Papa Larry’s” favorite verse: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
