The board of directors of the Beta Omicron Alumni Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity at Northwestern State University is pleased to announce the selection of Scott Maggio as the next chapter advisor for the student chapter.
Appointed by the Pi Kappa Phi’s National Council, Maggio succeeds Beta Omicron Chapter alumnus Doug Ireland, who retired in 2022 after more than 14 years of dedicated service in that capacity.
Maggio, a 2016 initiate of the Theta Phi Chapter at Louisiana Tech University, will advise the student leaders’ day-to-day operations of the Beta Omicron Chapter.
“As chapter advisor, I hope that I can play a positive role in these young men’s lives, helping them leave college as a better person than where they came in before. I hope that they feel confident that they will be successful after college and in the workplace because of the positive experiences that they had in Pi Kapp and at NSU.”
In this volunteer role, Maggio will work with officers and key committee chairmen, headquarters staff members, other volunteers, and university staff members to help the chapter make intelligent, fair, and reasonable choices within the boundaries established by law, as well as Pi Kappa Phi’s standards of conduct and the applicable policies of the university. Chapter Advisors also provide students members with the appropriate amount of challenge and support to make decisions that advance the mission of both the chapter and the national organization.
Maggio will draw on his own experiences as a student leader, having previously served as his chapter’s Vice Archon, Recruitment committee chairman, and Alumni Relations chair.
“Fraternities play an important role on college campuses because of the brotherhood that many young men are looking for when coming to college. They want to find a group of like-minded people that they can be with through good times and bad. Fraternities, especially Pi Kappa Phi, are college experiences that transcend into a lifelong brotherhood. The relationships you make and the values that are taught go far beyond college campuses.”
His professional and institutional experiences at NSU will also prove to be a valuable resource for the student members.
Maggio was just named assistant athletic director for development/corporate sponsorships after spending the past two years as NSU’s director of ticket operations and annual fund.
During that time, he helped increase gate sales for both men’s and women’s basketball by over 200 percent for the 2022-23 season after seeing a 15 percent bump in season-ticket sales and 60 percent for gate ticket sales for baseball in his first year in the role.
He coordinated the largest giving day in NSU Athletics history this past May with a record $345,817 in donations and played a role in landing the largest single gift in NSU Athletics history – a $1.5 million donation from David and Sherry Morgan.
In his new role, Maggio will strengthen and foster relationships with regional and national brands and organizations with the purpose of helping to provide NSU’s student-athletes with the resources needed to compete for conference championships on a yearly basis. He will also oversee growing NSU’s Demon’s Unlimited Foundation that provides scholarship dollars for both current and incoming student-athletes, along with supporting and fueling the department across many critical avenues.
Before joining NSU’s staff, Maggio worked in marketing and human resources at BOM.
While pursuing his master’s degree in sport management at LSU, Maggio worked in the LSU athletic ticket office where he was involved with single-game sales for all six of LSU’s ticketed sports – football, baseball, softball, gymnastics and men’s and women’s basketball.
While an undergraduate student at Louisiana Tech, Maggio was a manager with the Bulldog track and field team after his track career ended at Louisiana Tech, coordinating the annual Mook 4 Cross Country Invitational and the Jim Mize Track and Field Invitational.
Maggio has a wealth of volunteer experience, working four years with the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and with the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl.
A Natchitoches native, Maggio completed his master’s degree in sport management from LSU in May 2022 and his bachelor’s degree in communication from Louisiana Tech in March 2020.
He is also a two-time state champion 1,600-meter runner at St. Mary’s Catholic School.
Maggio and his wife, Mary-Katherine, were married in May 2023.
Maggio’s connection to the Beta Omicron Chapter predates his current appointment. As a member of Pi Kappa Phi, he and his family frequently attended Beta Omicron Chapter events and gatherings, forming lasting friendship with alumni and students.
