Pi Kappa Phi rides wave of momentum into NSU Homecoming celebration

A weekend of reunions and activities drew Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity alumni and their families to Northwestern State University’s annual Homecoming Weekend in Natchitoches on October 25-26, 2024.

The weekend began with the investiture ceremony of NSU’s 21st president, James T. Genovese, followed by a luncheon for the 2024 inductees into the Long Purple Line, the university’s hall of distinction.

Beta Omicron Chapter alumnus and former chapter advisor Doug Ireland was among the recipients of the honor.

That evening, Pi Kappa Phi’s float joined others in a parade to the riverbank stage in downtown Natchitoches. Then, a pep rally featured performances by the NSU cheerleaders, Demon Dazzlers, pom pon line, and the Spirit of Northwestern Marching Band; the introduction of the Homecoming Court, NSU mascot Vic the Demon, as well as an appearance by first-year NSU Head Football Coach Blaine McCorkle and the football team.

The NSU Pi Kapps were recognized for their participation in Homecoming week activities, having earned 1st place in the fraternity float competition, 2nd place in Lip Sync, 2nd place in Service, 2nd Place in Fun Run, and 2nd place in Banner.

Saturday kicked off with a breakfast at the Beta Omicron Chapter House on Chaplin’s Lake, which was attended by alumni, active members, and their families. Alumni shared stories of their favorite Pi Kapp memories while inspecting the dozens of composites that hang throughout the house. 2000 Rose Queen Virginia Dixon Monceret stopped by to visit with the newest initiates from the Beta Alpha Associate member class.

Pi Kappa Phi alumnus Dr. Bill Morrison became the fourth chapter member inducted into NSU’s Hall of Distinguished Educators.

The fellowship then shifted to the Pi Kapp tent for tailgating prior to the NSU Football game versus Lamar. The conversation among Beta Omicron members from across the decades continued for several hours. The Pi Kapps and their guests enjoyed a cookout and several rounds of cornhole, before heading to the stadium.
