11 members of the Beta Omicron Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity at NSU traveled to Canton, Mississippi for a weekend of volunteering on behalf of the Ability Experience on April 11-13, 2025.
At Quiet Waters campground, the members joined other Pi Kapps from around the region for an Ability Camp focusing on completing improvements to the facility that serves individuals with disabilities.
These efforts gave the Quiet Waters staff a vital head start for the summer season and gave the Pi Kapps a meaningful opportunity to live out the values of service, empathy and servant leadership.
“Even more meaningful than the work itself was the opportunity to meet and interact with some of the incredible children the camp serves,” said member Ayden Slack. “We’re grateful for the chance to give back and be part of something bigger than ourselves.”
This is the second Ability Camp this Spring for members of the Beta Omicron Chapter. In February, a group of chapter members traveled to Camp Summit in Paradise, Texas.
These events kick off a Summer of service for several of the NSU Pi Kapps. Mitchell Mayfield, Owen Stutzman, and Tyler Dupuis will participate in the Journey of Hope, a cross-country cycling marathon to raise awareness and funds for programs that support individuals with disabilities. Matthew Bailey and Ayden Slack have also been selected for the first-ever Gear Up New York cycling trek.
