The Theta Phi chapter at Louisiana Tech University was chartered on March 21, 2009, as Pi Kappa Phi’s 213th chapter.
The chapter was installed by National Vice President Mark Jacobs, Delta Psi (Texas-Arlington), and Pi Kappa Phi Foundation Trustee David Morgan Sr., Beta Omicron (Northwestern State).
The 35 founding fathers were initiated by teams from Beta Omicron (Northwestern State) and Theta Alpha (Southern Miss). Representing the national organization at Theta Phi’s chartering banquet were Bayou Regional Governor Dr. Mitchell Adrian, Beta Mu (McNeese State); Coordinator of Chapter Development Derek Berger, Beta Xi (Central Michigan); and Senior Leadership Consultant Walter Pape, Zeta Phi (Colorado State). Also in attendance were past staff members Kyle Robinson, Gamma Iota (Louisiana State), and Rodney Clements, Beta Omicron (Northwestern State).
In addition, three members of Theta Delta (Florida International) lent their support to the new chapter by attending Theta Phi’s banquet. During the chapter’s chartering banquet, Vice President Jacobs challenged the men to keep pushing their chapter forward by creating tradition, executing their goals, re-defining the Greek Community, and developing a positive history. The chapter concluded the banquet with a rousing rendition of the Rose of Pi Kappa Phi.
Members of the chapters are looking forward to the close proximity of the two chapters. Until recent years, Northwestern State and Louisiana Tech maintained a long-time rivalry between sporting teams. Chapter brothers said having another Pi Kappa Phi chapter in Ruston will provide ample opportunity for activities and brotherhood.
