Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity has named the Beta Omicron Alumni Chapter its national Housing Corporation of the Year.

Announced July 1 by the national headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina, the honor is given to the most outstanding and most effective relationship between a housing corporation or alumni chapter and their chapter. “The winner goes above and beyond in their relationship with their chapter,” a news release stated.

The Beta Omicron Alumni Chapter, an incorporated association of alumni members of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity at Northwestern State University, has 50 dues-paying members who support the operation of the chapter’s newly-constructed chapter house in Natchitoches, as well as support the student chapter through mentoring, networking opportunities, and scholarships, among other efforts.

The Beta Omicron Chapter House is located at 416 S. Jefferson Street on the NSU campus.

Beta Omicron’s success stood out among Pi Kappa Phi’s alumni organizations on campuses around the county.

“Understanding the need for collegiate brothers to have a common place to live, learn and thrive, the Beta Omicron Alumni Chapter worked with the campus to raise funds, finance, and establish a new chapter house to continue over 65 years of brotherhood,” the fraternity’s announcement stated.

The alumni chapter’s most recent major project was the construction of the 5,300 square-feet residential and meeting facility on Chaplin’s Lake. Funded by $1.1 million in donations from alumni and supporters, the chapter house has been open for nearly a year.

Unarguably the premier private student housing option on the NSU campus, the Pi Kappa Phi House features 12 single bedrooms, four study lounges, a large meeting room, living room, den, laundry facility, and a full kitchen.

The Beta Omicron Alumni Chapter was chartered in October 2000 after the re-chartering of the student chapter earlier that year. Its first priority was to secure the purchase of a chapter house — the property on University Parkway that served as Pi Kappa Phi’s home at NSU for two decades until building the new on-campus facility on South Jefferson Street.

In that same period, Beta Omicron alumni have demonstrated their ability to accomplish great successes to benefit the student chapter, in addition to supporting commitments to one another through lifelong brotherhood.

Past recognition includes: Housing Corporation of the Year in 2002; Alumni Chapter of the Year in 2013 and 2015; Excellence in Engagement award in 2017 and 2018. This year, the Alumni Chapter was also named a Champion Master Alumni Chapter for overall success.
