This Fall, the Beta Omicron Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity will celebrate 70 years since its chartering at Northwestern State University.
A full weekend of activities for alumni, students, and their families is planned in Natchitoches, Louisiana on September 11-12, 2026, centered on reconnecting generations of Pi Kapps and commemorating the chapter’s rich history and accomplishments.
The 63rd chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity history was installed at NSU on September 21, 1956 by a group of 29 students. These members of the local fraternity Phi Kappa Nu, which was founded in 1929, had embarked on a year-long process to affiliate with a national organization, having selected Pi Kappa Phi.
In the seven decades that followed the establishment of the Beta Omicron Chapter, more than 700 initiates have been welcomed into a tight-knit brotherhood that has rewarded its members with lifelong friendship and significantly influenced the successes of alumni. Beta Omicron Chapter alumni include successful CEOs, CFOs, state legislators, mayors, educators and coaches, attorneys, military officers, journalists, political consultants, financial advisors, ministers, Hollywood actors, law enforcement, celebrated chefs, small business owners, and health care professionals spread throughout the world.
The weekend of Friday, September 11 and Saturday, September 12 will feature social gatherings and special ceremonies. The highlight of the 70th anniversary will be a Platinum Jubilee luncheon in the Sylvan Friedman Student Union ballroom on the NSU campus. Guests of honor will include members of the Beta Omicron Founders Generation Group (1956-1962), past chapter Rose Queens, representatives of the National Fraternity, as well as NSU and community dignitaries. Attendees will receive a commemorative challenge coin, a collectible full-color history book, and other mementos.
A full itinerary will be released later this Summer. At that time, registration information will be sent via email to all members and posted at http://www.pikappNSU.org.
The Beta Omicron Alumni Chapter is currently planning activities for the celebration. Those interested in serving on the 70th anniversary committee should contact Alumni President Wes Breeden by emailing alumni@pikappNSU.org.
Also as part of the anniversary, the Alumni Chapter is organizing a membership drive to help ensure the student chapter’s success into the next momentous era at NSU. The ’70 for 70′ campaign looks to achieve at least 70 alumni who are actively involved in the Beta Omicron Alumni Chapter. It is already 60% to that goal. Those interested in making an immediate impact and leaving a lasting legacy can learn more here.
A special page at pikappNSU.org was also launched this month. Updated information about the anniversary will be posted here, as well as links to digital content, historical archives, chapter photos, interviews with chartering members, and much more.
